  • we gather together joyfully,
  • to love, live, learn and pray,

  • as Jesus teaches us.

Collective Worship 2021-2022

Lent - We are remembering, reflecting, gathering and listening to the sacrifices Jesus made for us during his forty days in the desert.

Throughout Lent, the children have gathered together for class liturgies, pupil-led liturgies, key stage masses and whole school masses. We have been reverent throughout Lent and discussed ways in which we can follow in Jesus' Footsteps.

During Lent, we have prepared our prayer tables. We have changed our altar cloths to purple to symbolise preparation, reflection and reverence.

Each class has added their own touch, for example, in Year 1 they have created a cross out of soil to symbolise Jesus' time in the desert.

Christmas is such a special time of the year. We welcome the birth of baby Jesus, the Son of God, our new King. We have celebrated his coming in all different ways at Maryvale.

EYFS and KS1 have performed the story in their Nativity and KS2 produced a fantastic Carol Service.

Advent is a special time of year where we prepare for the coming of Christ. At Maryvale, we have been preparing for this occasion by raising money and donating items to our chosen charity St Chad's. We have had class Advent services and an Advent mass.

We also held a 'Purple Day' where all the children came into school wearing the colour purple, where the children enjoyed a range of Advent activities throughout the day!

Year 6 led a KS1 and KS2 Advent assembly, they informed us all about the importance of Advent, it's meaning and ideas of what we can do throughout the time Advent.

The children gathered respectfully, listened carefully, responded righteously and completed Advent activities going forth. By going forth, each class including EYFS set out their own Advent Promises to abide by during Advent.

Year 1 Harvest celebrations

Harvest Mass October 2021

It was so special to celebrate our first whole school Mass together and to be joined by other members of the community.  We had so many donations of food - which will soon be going to charity.

Thank you to our House Captains who have been leading Rosary Club during October.

Some of our Class Liturgies from Autumn term and TenTen assemblies lead by Miss Barnes.

Collect Worship During Lockdown

During this period, in consultation with the Archdiocese of Birmingham it has been agreed that Mass must not be celebrated in the school building.  However, children both at home and in school have been fortunate enough to be able to celebrate Mass virtually alongside other local primary schools thanks to St Chad's Cathedral Birmingham and their live streamed Masses.

All are welcome to celebrate St Chad's virtual Masses.  Visit   https://www.stchadscathedral.org.uk/ to find Mass times and access to the live stream.

Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. (Candlemas)

In addition to celebrating Mass virtually with St Chad's, the children thought about the significance of candles.

Celebrating Virtual Mass

                        Celebrating Bambinelli Sunday

Our celebrations were a little different this year but despite all of this, we still made our Bambinelli figures which were blessed in Mass. Take a look at some of our beautiful Bambinelli figures.
