Did you know reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child's future success - more than their family circumstances, their parents' educational background or their income?
At Maryvale, we want our children to develop a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and benefit from the improved life chances this brings them.
To support families at home to develop a love for reading, we have put together an area on our website full of stories to access at home, including stories read by our wonderful staff!
Homework will be set each Friday to be completed for the following Friday. Tasks will be listed each week at the back of their Reading Journal. This will include Maths, English and Spelling.
Children are expected to read both their Home Reading Book and Reading for Pleasure Book multiple times a week and record their understanding in their Reading Journals. Please may this be signed weekly by parents/guardians.

In Year 6, we understand that many children are beginning to access the online world regularly on their own smart phones. This can be a great tool but can also cause friendship issues and safety concerns.
We advise that all parents ensure that children's devices are monitored regularly and children do not access them on their own in their bedrooms.
