Welcome to Year 5!
The class teacher is Miss Edwards.
Here is what some children say about year 5:
"This is the best year ever!"
"We learn everything in a fun way."
"Lessons are amazing."
PE days will be Monday and Thursday, and swimming will be every Thursday.
Please ensure that correct PE kits are in school and earrings are removed.
Swimming will also be on a Thursday. Girls need to wear a one-piece costume, with their hair tied up and earrings removed. Boys need to wear swim shorts. T-shirts can be worn over the top. Please make sure your child has a recognisable towel, swim goggles if necessary and a swim hat if children want to keep their hair dry.
Parents have access to our RSHE curriculum. In Year 5 we will cover Puberty and Changing Bodies. An app message will be sent out the week before to allow time for parents to look at the content covered. This can be done using the TenTen link below.

Did you know reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child's future success - more than their family circumstances, their parent's educational background or their income?
At Maryvale, we want our children to develop life-long habit of reading for pleasure and benefit from the improved life chances this brings them, which is why reading is our golden thread.
To support families at home to develop a love for reading, we have put together an area on our website full of stories to access at home, including stories read by our wonderful staff!
Spellings will be sent home every Friday, to be tested on the following Friday.
If you are looking to do additional maths revision at home, the school is subscribed to MyMaths, on which you can access booster packs that will help children practice new skills, or those taught in the week.
Children are expected to read both their Home Reading book and their Reading for Pleasure book multiple times a week and their understanding should be recorded in their reading journals. We ask that parents/guardians sign these weekly.
