Inclusion

At Maryvale School, we want every child with SEND to not only achieve academically but also to be equipped with skills to enable them to go out into the wider community and deal with the next stage of their transition.   Consequently, we work hard to support our children through each stage of their  social, emotional and academic journey.

We promote inclusion throughout the school, and we want children with SEND to have a love for learning and to be enthused and excited by their learning.

Inclusion is a process that entitles all learners:

  • To a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum.
  • To an environment that will have the greatest impact on their learning.
  • To be able to learn, play and develop alongside each other.

To ensure this happens, above all, we endeavour to provide all our pupils with quality first teaching. To help remove any barriers to learning, we personalise our curriculum and constantly reflect and adapt our practice to the needs of the individual child. In addition to this, a range of strategies may also be used, such as:

  • Pupils may have additional to or different resources to their peers.
  • Pupils may, at times, have additional adult or small group support within lessons.
  • Pupils may be invited to take part in a specialist social, emotional or academic based programme lead by an adult, either one-to-one or as part as a small select group.
