Maryvale

Catholic Primary School

  • With our mother Mary,
  • we gather together joyfully,
  • to love, live, learn and pray,
  • with respect for all God’s family,
  • as Jesus teaches us.

Religious Education - Curriculum

In Year 3 children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  In preparation for this Sacrament, the children reflect on the fact that they are children of God and that this impacts on the way they treat others.

Through studying Bible stories such as Zacchaeus the tax collector and parables like the Prodigal Son, the children learn about Jesus’ teachings on repentance and forgiveness.

The children learn the structure and sequence of the Rite of Reconciliation and are fully prepared to make their Reconciliation in Lent.

Congratulations to all our Year 3 children who have taken the next step in their Faith.

In Year 5 they have been looking at a range of topics in their RE lessons. Class Saints, Class Virtues (Subsidiarity), Our Mother Mary and why people choose to go on a Pilgrimage.

They have held Class-led Liturgies, designed posters, prayer chains, explored different Pilgrimages and role played them.

In Reception and Year 4 we have looked at God's Family and Baptism. We have linked these units with the Bible stories of 'The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple' and 'John Baptising Jesus'.

We have made links to our own Families, our Parish and our School Family. The children have loved sharing different stories about Baptism and learning about being a part of God's Family.

After celebrating and learning about the Christmas Unit, we also studied the Bible Story 'The Epiphany'.

We looked at how the three kings travelled to Bethlehem to celebrate the birth of the New King.

In Reception, we listened to and role-played the Bible Story. We then had a go at getting creative and made our own crowns to be a King in the story. We made crowns out of a variety of different resources.

During Advent we have held lots of class liturgies, made Advent promises and we've been Learned and Wise with our actions.

Before and during Advent, EYFS and KS1 have been practicing their Nativity, they worked so hard on acting out the Nativity Story, learning their lines and singing the songs!

KS2 have also conducted a Carol Service, they have worked so hard with their class teachers and Mr Diggle to learn the Christmas Carols!

Year 1 have been looking closely about how a mass is prepared and carried out. They fully engaged and enjoyed acting out a mass in their class. The children were very respectful and took it in turns to carry out each role precisely and respectfully.
