Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Feast day – 5th September
Mother Teresa wanted to become a Nun from an early age and she left her home in Macedonia to live with the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland when she was 18. From there, she was sent to Calcutta in India, where she worked teaching girls. When she was in Calcutta, Mother Teresa saw lots of abandoned people on the streets. Nobody wanted anything to do with these people, but she was drawn to helping these people.
Mother Teresa took babies from bins and washed them. She fed the people and treated the sick. She built schools for the children and shelters for families, using donations.
Mother Teresa is a great example of how we can live our lives to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
