Reception 2020-2021
Summer 1
Reception have loved returning to school after their Easter break.
We have been learning all about the Easter Story and the Paschal Candle.
We have also had a fabulous opportunity to raise money for the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day 2021!
The children came into school dressed as numbers and took part in such fun and engaging activities relating to Numbers.
Spring 2 in Reception!
We have enjoyed playing outdoors, creating homes out of different materials for dinosaurs, taking part in Science week, virtual masses, acted out the events during Holy Week, special Easter Egg hunts with hidden scripture and Easter Egg raffles.
Additionally we have been learning all about measurements in Maths. We have been comparing ourselves and objects by height.
We have also started our new topic 'Seaside' and have been investigating different sea creatures.
We're back to Remote Learning but that hasn't stopped Reception's dedication, motivation and positive attitudes towards learning!
We have been:
-Playing in the snow
-Phonics
-Using magnetic letters to create green words
-Counting objects and matching that amount to the correct number
-Cosmic yoga
-Prayer service celebrating our class Saint - Mary the Mother of Jesus

The children have been working so hard in December!
-They have taken part in D&T week and created their very own personalised baubles with their height inside.
-They have created props for their Christmas Nativity
-Learnt their lines and different songs for our Nativity
-Acted out the Nativity story
-Celebrated Bambinelli Day and made their very own both at home and at school
-Made their own hop scotches and practiced counting their jumps/hops
-Took part in PSHE lessons and learnt all about how to keep fit and what is healthy/unhealthy for us.
Since being back in school after isolating, Reception have been working so hard.
The children have been working extremely hard in Phonics by blending and segmenting green words (cvc - consonant/vowel/consonant words).
Focusing on our Jesuit Value for the half term 'Intentional and Prophetic' - we have looked at the importance of following in Jesus' footsteps by making good and ethical choices and being seen to do good and speaking about what is right.

We have also started learning all about 'Advent' and the important preparation time before Christmas. The children took part in an Advent Liturgy with their peers and with their parents via Zoom. The children loved engaging with their parents and showing off their wonderful Advent Promises.
The children have been learning all about keeping healthy and closely following our FRIENDS programme for PSHE. Our FRIENDS programme has focused on our families and our homes.
Autumn 2 activities
We have been looking after the environment and God's Creations
-Planting Pansies
-Discovering the texture and taste of Pumpkins
-Celebrated Feast Day - focused mainly on our Class Saint 'Mary the Mother of God'
-Learnt the 'Hail Mary'
-Painted Stain Glass Windows
-Made some Rosary Beads
-Learnt about the soldiers and made Poppies to support and remember them
-Held a Remembrance Prayer Service
-Explored Fireworks using our senses
So far in Reception this first half term...
